Actor Denise Richards and her husband, Aaron Phypers, are ending their marriage after six years. Legal filings show that Phypers initiated divorce proceedings on July 7, listing the separation date as July 4 and citing irreconcilable differences. He has also requested spousal support from Richards.
The divorce filing comes during a period of significant legal difficulty for Phypers. He is currently facing a civil lawsuit alleging fraud related to his wellness business. The suit, filed by the trustee of a deceased client’s estate, accuses Phypers of breach of contract and making a false promise regarding an alternative cancer treatment.
According to the complaint, the late client, an art director diagnosed with a rare sarcoma, paid Phypers for a treatment he claimed had a 98 percent success rate. He allegedly offered a 50 percent refund if the treatment failed. When the client’s tumors progressed and she requested the refund, the lawsuit states Phypers failed to pay the promised $63,000, even after acknowledging the debt. The client passed away in May 2024.
This is not Phypers’ only recent legal issue. In June 2024, he was reportedly taken to court by creditors for allegedly defaulting on a separate six-figure debt repayment agreement.
The couple, who recently appeared together on a reality television series, have not publicly commented on the divorce. In a separate family matter, Richards’ adult daughter from a previous relationship stated in a recent podcast interview that while she was not personally close with Phypers, he had been supportive of her mother’s career endeavors.
