Competitor Dylan Efron is navigating the intense world of “Dancing With the Stars” by leaning on a relentless work ethic and a powerful partnership with his professional dancer. In a recent discussion, he opened up about his journey on the hit competition series and a personal cause close to his heart.
Efron, a newcomer to dance, described the experience as among the most rewarding of his life. He emphasized that his progress is not due to innate talent but to a willingness to put in exhaustive hours of practice. “I’ve never been the best at anything athletically or academically,” he noted. “What I rely on is my drive to push myself. That dedication is my superpower here.”
A key component of his success, he says, is his professional partner, Daniella Karagach. He praised her extraordinary commitment, stating she has been instrumental in his transformation. “She’s willing to drop everything for extra training sessions. I could have been paired with many professionals, but I wouldn’t be half the dancer I am now without that level of partnership,” Efron shared. While he follows her lead on choreography, he humorously admitted they don’t always see eye to eye outside of dance.
The feedback from the judging panel also plays a critical role in his weekly preparation. He takes their critiques seriously, incorporating their advice—such as embodying a more commanding presence—directly into his rehearsals.
Beyond the ballroom, Efron is using his platform to champion the adoption of senior pets. He has partnered with a national pet hospital network for National Senior Pet Month, an initiative that resonates deeply with him as the owner of Booey, a German shepherd now considered a senior dog.
“The vet had to remind me he’s not a puppy anymore,” Efron recalled. “It really hit home. These older animals in shelters often get passed over, but they have so much love and life to give. Adopting a senior pet means gaining a loyal best friend who knows they’ve found a home.”
The campaign aims to facilitate adoptions by covering fees and providing a year of preventive care for selected shelter pets. For Efron, who looks forward to returning to a quieter life of road trips and time with his girlfriend and dog after the show, the message is simple: greatness comes from dedication, whether in mastering a new skill or providing a loving home to a deserving animal.
