The daughter of a recently pardoned reality television patriarch has opened up about the severe emotional distress she says has resulted from her portrayal on a new family documentary series and the subsequent backlash from viewers.
Lindsie Chrisley, who is estranged from her father Todd Chrisley and stepmother Julie Chrisley, revealed she has not watched their new show, Back to Reality, on the advice of her team for her own mental well-being. Instead, she relied on others to inform her of its content. However, she stated that the narrative presented on the program led to a wave of hostile reactions on social media, which became so severe she removed herself from online platforms entirely for several weeks.
“The messages I received were so extreme that I was driving my child to school and realizing people were telling me to kill myself,” she shared on her podcast, The Southern Tea. “It put me in a very emotional place.”
The series reportedly features allegations from her half-sister, Savannah Chrisley, including a claim that Lindsie was dismissed from the family’s original show, Chrisley Knows Best, and a declaration that they are “no longer family.” Savannah also referenced a past legal letter, which Lindsie has previously addressed in connection to her father’s legal troubles.
Lindsie contends that the documentary contains “inaccurate depictions” of past events. While she initially had no plans to revisit the family conflict publicly, she announced an upcoming podcast episode where she intends to provide her own account of what transpired.
Todd and Julie Chrisley were convicted on federal fraud charges and began serving prison sentences in early 2023. They were released in May of this year after receiving presidential pardons. Their new documentary series chronicles their return to public life following their incarceration.
