New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art was once again the epicenter of global style as celebrities and designers gathered for the annual Met Gala. This year’s event, held on May 6, served as a glittering preview for the museum’s latest exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
The exhibition’s curator described the theme as a celebration of historically significant garments, referred to as “Sleeping Beauties,” which are being brought back to public view. He emphasized fashion’s unique power as an art form deeply connected to human experience, memory, and the senses, hoping the showcase would reawaken a sensory appreciation for design. The exhibition opens to the public following the gala and will remain on display through early September.
The red carpet transformed into a parade of breathtaking interpretations of the theme. Co-chair Zendaya made a striking arrival in a dramatic gown from Maison Margiela, while fellow co-chair Bad Bunny complemented the aesthetic in a tailored suit and hat from the same house.
The steps of the museum became a stage for a diverse array of standout looks. Jennifer Lopez captivated in a sheer, silver mermaid gown, while Gigi Hadid appeared ethereal in a sculptural white dress adorned with floral details. Mindy Kaling commanded attention in a nude, strapless gown featuring bold architectural elements, and Sabrina Carpenter impressed in a sophisticated blue and black ensemble.
Elegance and daring style were on full display. Uma Thurman exuded regal charm in a soft blue outfit, and Emily Ratajkowski turned heads in a translucent creation. Kim Kardashian made a memorable entrance in a sheer dress with intricate lace and botanical embellishments.
The evening also featured powerful custom designs. Brie Larson shone in a specially made outfit, and Demi Moore, marking her return to the event, stunned in a structural gown. Penélope Cruz radiated classic glamour in a bustier gown, and Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo presented a united front as they arrived together.
Other notable moments included loved-up appearances from couples like Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, and coordinated styles from other guests, all contributing to a night dedicated to the artistry and emotional resonance of fashion.
