A key character in the popular Netflix series “Emily in Paris” is reportedly taking a step back for the show’s upcoming season. Sources indicate that Lucas Bravo, who plays chef Gabriel, will have a significantly reduced presence in the fifth season.

The shift coincides with a major change in the show’s setting, as the storyline moves the protagonist, Emily, from Paris to Rome. This geographical leap appears to leave some of her old life, and its associated characters, with less narrative focus.

The actor’s scaled-back involvement was hinted at in recent promotional materials released by the streaming service. While other cast members were featured prominently in interviews and teasers, Bravo was largely absent, appearing only in a brief archival clip.

When questioned about his noticeable omission from the marketing, Bravo offered a cryptic response, suggesting he enjoyed the speculation it created. However, he has been more vocal in the past about his creative dissatisfaction with his character’s trajectory.

In previous interviews, Bravo expressed that he felt increasingly disconnected from Gabriel, describing the character as having become passive and melancholic. He criticized the writing for a perceived lack of risk and development, stating that the role was no longer enjoyable for him to portray. The actor had even hinted that his continued participation beyond his existing contract would depend on a meaningful shift in Gabriel’s storyline.

The new season is scheduled to premiere in mid-December. While Gabriel is expected to make appearances, including scenes at his restaurant in Rome, the narrative emphasis will firmly be on Emily’s Italian adventure and the new characters she encounters there.
