A DUCHESS’S UNWAVERING SUPPORT AMIDST A ROYAL TITLE’S DEMISE

by Hannah Southwick

In a significant development within the British Royal Family, the Duke of York has been formally stripped of his royal titles and military affiliations. This decisive action follows years of controversy and legal entanglements connected to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Despite this profound change in status, the Duke’s former wife, Sarah Ferguson, has reportedly chosen to maintain a position of steadfast support. Sources close to the couple indicate that their relationship, which has endured beyond their marriage, remains a cornerstone during this period of upheaval. Ferguson’s own courtesy title, the Duchess of York, is also affected by the ruling.

The loss of titles comes against the backdrop of serious allegations made by Virginia Giuffre, a victim of Epstein, in a posthumously published memoir. In the account, Giuffre detailed abusive encounters, claims which the Duke has consistently denied. A 2022 settlement in a related civil case, reported to be in the millions, did not include an admission of liability.

The repercussions have extended beyond the immediate family. Several charitable organizations have publicly severed their links with the Duchess, stating continued association had become untenable. This follows previous scrutiny over her own past financial dealings with Epstein.

While the King is understood to be reviewing living arrangements on the royal estates, the Duke retains a legal tenancy agreement for his current residence. Through the turmoil, the couple’s two adult daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who hold their titles by birth, are said to be supporting their parents while remaining detached from the controversies.

The situation underscores the lasting personal and institutional fallout from the Epstein scandal, with a former senior royal now navigating life outside the formal structures of the monarchy, supported by the loyalty of his closest family.
