A close friend of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has spoken out forcefully against critics who targeted the royal after she shared a private family video. The footage, posted earlier this month to mark her daughter’s fourth birthday, showed Meghan and Prince Harry dancing in a hospital room prior to her giving birth.
The friend, Christopher Bouzy, condemned the reaction as part of a “sickening and cruel” harassment campaign. He described how personal moments are weaponized against the couple, stating that the relentless conspiracy theories and abuse have had severe real-world consequences.
“Imagine having the most vulnerable moments of your life turned into ammunition for hate,” Bouzy was quoted as saying. He revealed that the duchess had experienced “suicidal thoughts at the height of the abuse,” drawing a direct line between her despair and the sustained public vilification.
The criticism of the video included unfounded claims questioning the authenticity of Meghan’s pregnancy, with some online commentators making disparaging remarks about her appearance and movements while heavily pregnant.
The defense was echoed by former reality television star Candiace Dillard, who challenged one critic directly on social media. Dillard shared a photo from her own pregnancy, showcasing what she described as a “lumpy, uneven, stretched and swollen” belly, and accused the detractors of underlying prejudice.
“Misogynoir has no expiration date,” Dillard wrote, using a term that describes the specific intersection of racism and sexism faced by Black women.
The incident highlights the intense and often toxic scrutiny the couple continues to face, with Bouzy warning that such campaigns cause profound personal harm and damage societal discourse. Neither Meghan nor Prince Harry has publicly commented on the latest wave of criticism.
