The family of a 16-year-old boy who died suddenly is speaking out to refute widespread speculation that his death was linked to fentanyl, calling the rumors deeply painful.
Weston Gosa Jr., the son of former reality television personality Whitney Purvis, passed away on June 2. In the aftermath, his stepmother, Amy Gosa, addressed the public conjecture, stating the insinuations are “very hurtful” to a grieving family.
According to Amy Gosa, the teenager’s death was “sudden” and “out of nowhere.” She indicated that while an official cause of death is pending an autopsy, the family believes underlying health issues were a factor, not illicit substances.
“He was fine the night before,” she said. “We initially thought it might be related to low blood sugar, but that wasn’t the case.”
The young man was known to have been managing several chronic health conditions, including type-1 diabetes, Addison’s disease, and Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.
The loss has left the family shattered. “We’re all very upset. Our kids are devastated,” Amy Gosa shared. “He has two brothers, and they’re just broken.”
She noted that despite past familial difficulties, the tragedy has brought everyone together in mutual support. “We’re on good terms now,” she said of the boy’s biological mother. “She’s devastated as well. She’s not doing good at all right now.”
Whitney Purvis confirmed her son’s passing in a heartfelt social media post, expressing unimaginable grief. “My beautiful son, Weston, has passed away. He was only 16 years old… This is really my worst nightmare come true,” she wrote.
A fundraiser has been established to assist with funeral expenses as the family awaits further answers and mourns a life cut short.
