A significant change in the royal family’s living arrangements has brought the Prince and Princess of Wales into closer proximity to the King’s brother, Prince Andrew, as he prepares to vacate his long-held Windsor residence.
The Wales family has now taken up residence at Forest Lodge, an eight-room Georgian property within Windsor Great Park. The move from their previous home at Adelaide Cottage was completed ahead of schedule. The new estate, featuring six bathrooms, extensive grounds with a tennis court and a pond, is reported to be intended as a permanent base for the couple and their three children.
This relocation places them approximately two miles from Royal Lodge, the home of Prince Andrew. The Duke of York is currently in the process of surrendering the lease on that property following a palace decision to remove his royal styles and titles. A spokesperson confirmed he will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and will move to privately funded accommodation.
The title removal and relocation are connected to the ongoing fallout from his association with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has consistently denied allegations of misconduct but reached a financial settlement with an accuser in 2022. His former wife, Sarah Ferguson, who has also lived at Royal Lodge, will likewise need to find new accommodations.
Reports suggest the Prince of Wales has been supportive of his father, the King, in the decisive actions taken regarding his uncle’s status. The future of the Royal Lodge property, for which Andrew secured a long-term lease over two decades ago, has been a subject of discussion within royal circles for some time.
While the Wales family establishes itself in what is described as a “forever home,” the geographical shift underscores the changing landscape within the House of Windsor as it navigates a period of transition and consolidation.
