A LOOK BACK AT A POP STAR’S MOST MEMORABLE MET GALA MOMENTS

by Audrey Rock

For nearly a decade, one of music’s biggest stars has been absent from the fashion world’s most exclusive red carpet. Since her last appearance in 2016, speculation about a return has become an annual tradition, with rumors for the 2025 event ultimately proving unfounded as the star’s name was notably absent from the official guest list.

The journey began in 2008, when the then-18-year-old artist made her debut. She arrived in a shimmering, floor-length gold gown that perfectly captured that year’s “Superheroes” theme. The golden aesthetic of that night would later echo on the cover of her subsequent, massively successful album.

Her style evolved with each invitation. In 2010, she embodied a classic “American Woman” in a pristine white gown with romantic ruffles. The following year, for an exhibition honoring a legendary designer, she chose a gown of dramatic sophistication with an asymmetrical cut and a trailing train.

By 2013, her look shifted to match a “PUNK” theme, featuring a striking black dress with intricate cutouts, paired with bold, smoky eye makeup. She returned in 2014 in a soft pink, custom-made gown adorned with delicate floral embroidery, showcasing a more romantic side.

Her most recent appearance came in 2016, when she served as a co-chair for the event. Embracing a theme exploring technology and fashion, she wore a futuristic silver dress with strategic cutouts. That evening marked her last walk up the iconic steps.

Despite fervent fan hopes for a 2025 comeback, sources indicate the artist and her partner are currently prioritizing their time away from the public eye. After a period of intense travel and work commitments, they are said to be enjoying a private respite, focusing on their relationship and time with friends. For now, the fashion world will have to revisit the archives to relive this star’s iconic Met Gala history.
