A ROYAL DIVIDE: NEIGHBOR CONTRASTS MONTECITO LIFE OF SUSSEXES

by Hannah Southwick

A notable difference in how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex engage with their exclusive California community has been highlighted by a local resident. According to a neighbor in Montecito, Prince Harry is often seen as amiable and integrated, while Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, maintains a notably reserved presence.

The neighbor described the prince as consistently charming and approachable, frequently spotted in local settings such as coffee shops or cycling along community paths. His familiar demeanor and willingness to engage in brief, friendly exchanges are said to be appreciated by those in the area.

In contrast, the duchess is characterized as keeping a very low profile, with her public interactions being carefully managed. This perceived distance was illustrated by an anecdote in which a local historian’s attempt to deliver a welcoming gift was reportedly declined. The neighbor suggested that while the community values simplicity and approachability, the duchess appears to prioritize a controlled public image.

The assessment concludes that Prince Harry seems more at ease within the Montecito setting, whereas his wife’s relationship with the neighborhood is viewed as detached. This perspective stands in contrast to past positive remarks from other high-profile residents in the area, who have previously welcomed the couple as participating members of the community.

The Sussexes moved to their Montecito estate in the summer of 2020, following their departure from the United Kingdom.
