An actor is parting with cherished pieces of his professional history to help manage personal health challenges. James Van Der Beek has placed several key costume items and props from his early career up for auction, with the proceeds directed toward covering expenses related to his recent colorectal cancer diagnosis.

The collection, featured in Propstore’s upcoming Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, includes deeply personal artifacts from his time on the popular teen drama Dawson’s Creek and the cult sports film Varsity Blues. In a statement, the performer described the decision as a response to life’s “unexpected twists and turns,” noting that while nostalgic, offering these items to supportive fans feels like a positive step.

The auction’s centerpiece is a distinctive black metal chain necklace with a polished stone pendant, famously worn by his character, Dawson Leery. The piece, which later became a gift to a co-star’s character on the show, carries a starting bid of £10,000, with experts anticipating a final sale price significantly higher.

Additional lots from the television series feature the complete outfit worn in the pilot episode—a white jumper and cotton trousers—as well as other wardrobe items and set decorations from the character’s bedroom. From his role in Varsity Blues, he is offering the cleats and a team snapback hat worn during filming.

The actor recently had to forgo a reunion event for the series, citing his health journey. In a recorded message for that occasion, he expressed profound thanks for the ongoing support from fans and colleagues.

The public auction for these memorabilia items is scheduled for December 6.
