A well-known actor is parting with significant pieces of his professional history to address personal health challenges. James Van Der Beek has placed several iconic costume items and props from his early career up for auction, with the proceeds directed toward covering expenses related to his treatment for colorectal cancer.

The collection, featured in Propstore’s upcoming Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, includes deeply personal artifacts from his time on the seminal teen drama Dawson’s Creek and the cult sports film Varsity Blues. In a statement, the actor reflected on the decision, noting that while nostalgic, the moment felt right to share these items with the fans who have supported his work over decades.

The auction’s centerpiece is a distinctive black metal chain necklace, famously worn by his character Dawson Leery. The pendant, which became a narrative device later gifted to another character, carries a starting bid of £10,000, with auctioneers estimating a final sale price between £20,000 and £40,000.

Also on offer is the complete outfit—a white jumper and cotton trousers—worn in the pilot episode of Dawson’s Creek, starting at £750. Further lots from the series include a flannel shirt, a production chairback, and a set of bedroom decorations that featured prominently on screen.

From his role in Varsity Blues, two key items are listed: the cleats worn during pivotal football scenes and a snapback hat representing the fictional West Canaan Coyotes team.

This move follows the actor’s absence from a recent reunion event for the series, which was held to benefit a cancer charity. At the time, he shared a video message expressing his deep appreciation for the ongoing support from fans, cast, and crew.

The live auction for these lots is scheduled for December 6 in London.
