An actor recognized for his portrayal of a convicted murderer in a recent television series revealed he received a personal message of support from the inmate ahead of a major awards show.
The actor, who played Erik Menendez in a limited series detailing the infamous 1989 killings of Jose and Kitty Menendez, spoke on the red carpet about correspondence from Lyle Menendez. The message, received on the day of the ceremony, focused on raising awareness rather than awards.
“It was a very thoughtful note,” the actor stated, paraphrasing the message. “The sentiment was that recognition isn’t the priority; spreading awareness is what truly matters.”
The actor’s performance was nominated for a leading award but did not win. His public support for the Menendez brothers has been consistent, following their recent unsuccessful bid for parole. Last year, he expressed optimism after a district attorney recommended their sentences be reconsidered, calling it a source of “hope” and emphasizing the importance of public support for victims of abuse.
The brothers, convicted of murdering their parents, have long alleged they acted due to years of sexual abuse. They will not be eligible for another parole hearing for several years.
For now, the connection between the performer and the incarcerated siblings continues from a distance.
