A well-known actress recently shared a story about her first encounter with her now-husband, a comedian, admitting she made a hasty and awkward exit.
The actress explained that, prior to this, she had little experience with traditional dating. “I was never really asked out in that classic way,” she said, attributing it perhaps to a career that began in childhood. “It just wasn’t something that happened for me.”
Their initial meeting was a dinner at an Italian restaurant. “It was a lovely evening,” she recalled. However, when her date suggested extending the night to meet up with his friends, she panicked. “I basically hadn’t dated, ever. So I just said, ‘I have to go now. I need to leave.'”
She returned home unusually early, even surprising her babysitter. “I just felt so flustered,” she confessed. The comedian later told her he interpreted her sudden departure as a sign of disinterest, thinking she was acting “so weird.”
The actress and her co-host on the program bonded over the universal awkwardness of first dates, with both admitting to having made similar quick, unannounced exits from dates in the past. The actress recounted another brief dating experience where she simply “vanished” partway through an evening.
Reflecting on the incident now, she finds it humorous. The couple, who have been married for five years and share a young son, clearly moved past the rocky start. In a separate recent appearance, the comedian playfully addressed their dynamic, joking about his modern romantic gestures.
