CARDI B FACES CRITICISM AFTER MET GALA RED CARPET EXCHANGE

A red carpet moment at the 2024 Met Gala has sparked significant discussion online. While being interviewed, rapper Cardi B was asked about the designer of her voluminous black gown. Her response, in which she did not name the designer but referred to them as “amazing” and “Asian,” has drawn criticism from observers and fashion followers.

The dress was a custom creation by the Chinese couture label Windowsen, designed by Sensen Lii. Following the event, the designer shared detailed notes on social media, explaining that the nearly 3,000 meters of organza in the piece were meant to symbolize “vast black soil” in line with the gala’s “The Garden of Time” theme.

Many social media users expressed disappointment, suggesting that not naming the designer publicly was a missed opportunity and disrespectful to the artistry involved. Comments ranged from calling the oversight “insulting” to noting that the designer’s work was ultimately overshadowed. Others, however, pointed out that the incident had successfully brought widespread attention to the Windowsen brand.

The gala appearance came amid public speculation about Cardi B’s personal life. The artist, who attended the event without a partner, was later photographed with rapper Offset at a post-gala party. This followed her earlier social media statements indicating she had begun the new year as “a single lady” and was seeking a “new beginning.”
