DEADLY ASSAULT AT MANCHESTER SYNAGOGUE ON HOLY DAY PROMPTS ROYAL CONDOLENCES

A violent attack outside a synagogue in Manchester, England, on Yom Kippur has resulted in multiple casualties and drawn a public response from the royal family.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning in the Crumpsall area of north Manchester. According to police reports, a man drove a vehicle into a group of people gathered outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue. The suspect then exited the car and began stabbing bystanders before being shot by responding firearms officers.

Authorities confirmed that two individuals were killed in the attack and three others were left seriously injured. The suspected assailant was also pronounced dead at the scene. Due to concerns over suspicious items on the suspect’s person, a bomb disposal unit was called to the location.

In a statement issued following the attack, King Charles III expressed profound sorrow. “My wife and I have been deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the horrific attack in Manchester, especially on such a significant day for the Jewish community,” the monarch said. He conveyed that their thoughts and prayers were with all those affected by what he described as an “appalling incident.”

Police declared a major incident and invoked a marauding terrorist attack protocol shortly after the assault began. Investigators noted that a swift call from a member of the public allowed officers to respond rapidly, preventing the attacker from entering the synagogue itself. A large congregation already inside the building was safely evacuated once the immediate threat was neutralized.

In a social media statement, Greater Manchester Police acknowledged the profound impact of an attack on the Jewish community’s holiest day, stating it would “have caused significant shock and fear.” The force confirmed it is maintaining direct contact with synagogues across the region to provide reassurance and support.

The investigation into the full circumstances of the attack is ongoing.
