Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to learn his legal fate next month, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for early October. The music mogul, who has been incarcerated for over a year, faces sentencing on two counts related to the transportation of individuals for prostitution.
In a recent court filing, Combs’s legal team has requested a sentence of no more than 14 months, which would equate to time already served. The defense argues that the rapper and producer has already endured significant punishment, noting the damage to his career and reputation, as well as his time spent in a federal detention facility. They contend that further imprisonment is unnecessary.
The filing emphasizes that a jury acquitted Combs of more serious trafficking and racketeering charges earlier this year, convicting him only on the two prostitution-related counts. His lawyers have characterized the verdict as a form of vindication on the graver allegations.
Nearly 70 letters of support from family and associates were submitted alongside the legal arguments. These include pleas from his elderly mother and several of his children, asking the court to allow him to return home. The defense’s proposal also includes provisions for mandated drug treatment and therapy upon release.
While the defense seeks a sentence that would result in immediate freedom, prosecutors are expected to recommend a significantly longer term. Each of the two charges carries a maximum penalty of up to ten years in prison. The final decision will rest with the presiding judge following the October hearing.
