FORMER PRESIDENT’S THANKSGIVING REMARKS TARGET IMMIGRATION, DRAW CRITICISM FOR LANGUAGE

In a holiday social media post, former President Donald Trump launched a sharp critique of U.S. immigration policy, employing language that has since drawn widespread condemnation.

The lengthy statement, shared late on Thanksgiving, centered on claims that current policies are damaging the nation. Trump specifically cited the state of Minnesota, alleging it is being negatively impacted by refugee resettlement. He directed pointed criticism at the state’s governor, using a derogatory and widely rejected term for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The former president also singled out a congressional representative of Somali origin, repeating unfounded conspiracy theories and making disparaging comments about her religious attire and country of birth. He broadly characterized immigrants as a drain on public resources and a primary cause of social issues ranging from crime to strained public services.

Throughout the post, Trump framed his comments as a defense of what he termed “Patriotic American Citizens,” who he claimed are silently burdened by the immigration system. He concluded by labeling current policies as foolish and detrimental to the country’s stability.

The remarks have amplified ongoing debate over immigration rhetoric, with critics condemning the language as inflammatory and factually misleading. Supporters have echoed concerns about border security and immigration levels. The incident underscores the deeply polarized nature of the national conversation on this issue.
