A former participant from the television series “16 and Pregnant” has been taken into custody on serious charges following a man’s death.
Whitney Purvis was arrested by authorities in Floyd County, Georgia, on Monday. She faces a felony count of involuntary manslaughter, related to the alleged distribution of a lethal drug combination known as “Tranq,” which contains Fentanyl and Xylazine. The charge stems from the overdose death of a man named John Mark Harris after he reportedly consumed the substance provided by Purvis.
In addition to the manslaughter charge, Purvis was also booked on two separate counts involving controlled substances, including possession with intent to distribute.
This legal development follows a profound personal tragedy for Purvis. Just over a month ago, her 16-year-old son, Weston Gosa Jr., passed away. In social media posts at the time, Purvis expressed overwhelming grief, writing of her heartbreak and describing the loss as her “worst nightmare come true.”
Reports surfaced following the teenager’s funeral indicating a dispute over Purvis’s attendance. While an unnamed source claimed she was denied entry to the service, the child’s father, Weston Gosa Sr., offered a different account. He stated that Purvis was invited and was on the guest list but arrived after the scheduled viewing period had concluded and the service had begun, at which point entry was restricted.
Purvis has had previous encounters with law enforcement, including an arrest in 2021.
The case remains under investigation as legal proceedings begin.
