A legal dispute has emerged involving Britani Bateman, known for her association with the reality series The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. She is now facing a civil lawsuit filed by her former mother-in-law, Sandra Underwood, who is seeking the return of $100,000.
According to recently filed court documents, the conflict centers on funds placed into a family trust. Sandra Underwood, the mother of Bateman’s ex-husband, John Scott Underwood, alleges that the money was used for Bateman’s personal benefit and has not been repaid. The filing characterizes the actions as “willful, malicious, and intentionally fraudulent,” arguing that Bateman has been “unjustly enriched.”
The documents outline that Sandra Underwood received approximately $338,889 from the sale of her home. It is alleged that, following Bateman’s encouragement, $100,000 of that sum was placed into a trust with the explicit understanding that Sandra could withdraw the money at any time without objection.
The filing highlights Sandra Underwood’s age, stating she is in her eighties and faces increased living costs, primarily due to health-related expenses common among elderly individuals. With a reported limited monthly income of around $1,600, which is described as insufficient to cover her bills, she is seeking the return of the principal amount plus statutory interest, as well as coverage for her legal fees. A formal demand for repayment was reportedly sent in March, but the funds have not been returned.
This lawsuit adds another layer to Bateman’s recent legal history. Shortly after her divorce from John Scott Underwood was finalized in 2023, she herself filed a lawsuit against him, seeking $2.5 million in damages. In that complaint, she alleged suffering severe emotional distress during the marriage, citing controlling and abusive behavior.
Bateman has not publicly commented on the lawsuit from her ex-mother-in-law. Her involvement with the RHOSLC franchise has also been a source of public attention, with prior reports indicating she was involved in a heated altercation with cast member Meredith Marks during the filming of the show’s upcoming season.
The case continues to develop as both sides proceed through the legal system.
