A former senior member of the British royal family and his ex-wife, now stripped of their official titles, are confronting the possibility of being compelled to leave the United Kingdom as police investigations into their conduct intensify.
Sources indicate that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and Sarah Ferguson are the subjects of ongoing inquiries by London’s Metropolitan Police. The scrutiny reportedly encompasses Andrew’s past official overseas trips and various financial transactions.
According to commentators familiar with the case, the allegations are expected to center on financial misconduct rather than other previously reported controversies. These include the sale of a property to a foreign businessman at a price significantly above its market value, and the examination of Andrew’s expenditure during his former role as a trade envoy.
Separately, Ferguson is said to be under investigation for the alleged misuse of funds generated from her commercial ventures, which were purportedly intended for charitable purposes.
A royal biographer suggested that the mounting legal pressure could ultimately force the pair to reside abroad, with potential destinations including the Middle East and Europe, while maintaining minimal ties to London.
The loss of their royal styles was formally enacted last month, with Andrew reverting to the surname Mountbatten-Windsor and Ferguson now using her maiden name professionally. Their daughters, however, retain their own titles.
This development marks a continued distancing of the monarchy from the long-running scandals associated with the former royal, whose ties to the convicted financier Jeffrey Epstein have previously drawn severe public and institutional criticism.
