In a newly released interview, convicted former film producer Harvey Weinstein has continued to deny multiple allegations of sexual assault and rape, even as he faces a retrial on related charges.
Weinstein, who is currently serving a 16-year sentence in California for a separate rape conviction, spoke from prison. During the conversation, he admitted to making what he called “a pass” at actress Gwyneth Paltrow in the 1990s but firmly denied ever touching her without consent. Paltrow was among the first high-profile figures to publicly accuse Weinstein of misconduct in 2017.
The producer also addressed allegations from actress Rose McGowan, acknowledging he provided her with a financial settlement. He framed the payment as an attempt to conceal a relationship from his then-wife, not as an admission of guilt regarding her accusation of assault.
Furthermore, Weinstein dismissed claims made by actress Ashley Judd, labeling them as baseless. Throughout the interview, he maintained his innocence, stating he did not commit the crimes for which he was convicted and is now being retried.
The retrial in New York, where he has pleaded not guilty, could result in a sentence of up to 25 years if he is convicted again. His 2020 conviction in that jurisdiction was overturned on appeal last year.
The interviewer expressed a controversial perspective on the case, stating a belief that Weinstein is not a rapist and that the legal proceedings have eroded her confidence in the justice system. The full interview was released publicly this week.
