The home and lifestyle network HGTV is undergoing significant changes to its lineup, resulting in the cancellation of one series and the uncertain status of another, both featuring prominent figures from its programming slate.
The show Flipping El Moussas, starring real estate investor Tarek El Moussa and his wife, model Heather Rae El Moussa, has been officially canceled and will not return. Simultaneously, the network has paused production on Christina on the Coast, the series fronted by Tarek’s ex-wife and design expert Christina Haack, leaving its future in question.
This restructuring comes amid a broader review of the network’s programming. In recent months, HGTV has concluded several other series, prompting speculation about its strategic direction. While the network has not issued a formal statement, the moves have drawn reactions from other personalities within its orbit.
Amid these cuts, one competition series has managed to secure its future. The Flip Off, which pits the design and renovation teams of Tarek and Heather against Christina’s, has been renewed for a second season. The show, which debuted earlier this year, quickly became one of the network’s highest-rated new series. Filming and a premiere date for the new season have yet to be scheduled.
The dynamic between the three stars, given their shared personal history, was a focal point of the first season. Christina previously noted the unique experience of collaborating with both her former husband and his current wife, while Heather expressed initial curiosity about how their working relationship would unfold. Tarek humorously suggested his main concern was the two women joining forces against him during the competition.
Other HGTV hosts have also been impacted by the network’s evolving schedule. Stars Drew and Jonathan Scott, known for Property Brothers, have experienced delays with their projects. In a separate development, designer Nicole Curtis chose to postpone new episodes of her series Rehab Addict until the fall, a decision she stated was made for personal and family reasons. Her time slot was temporarily filled by another program.
These programming shifts indicate a period of transition for HGTV as it evaluates and refreshes its content offerings for viewers.
