Federal authorities have apprehended a Minnesota man following an alleged online solicitation for the murder of a prominent former government official.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Tyler Avalos, faces federal charges after an investigation was launched by the FBI. The probe began earlier this month when a tip was forwarded to the bureau’s National Threat Operations Center concerning a threatening social media post.
According to court documents, the post in question featured an image of former U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi with a graphic overlay simulating a sniper’s targeting reticle on her forehead. Accompanying text reportedly offered a substantial monetary reward for her death, explicitly stating a preference for a lethal outcome. Investigators noted the suspect’s profile name and linked materials referenced anarchist ideology.
Following his arrest, Avalos entered a plea of not guilty through his legal representation. A review of his background conducted during the investigation revealed a prior criminal record spanning multiple states, including previous felony convictions.
A judge has ordered Avalos released from custody under a stringent set of pre-trial conditions. These restrictions include a prohibition on leaving Minnesota, a ban on possessing weapons or consuming alcohol, enforced GPS monitoring, a curfew, and limited internet access. He is also required to continue ongoing mental health treatment.
The case remains under active investigation by federal law enforcement.
