A prominent media personality has spoken out in defense of a woman recently arrested in connection with a fatal drug overdose, arguing that law enforcement is targeting the wrong individual.
The celebrity, who has had her own legal troubles, stated that authorities often pursue “the easiest person to blame,” particularly if that person is a woman in the public eye. She described the accused, Whitney Purvis, as a “grieving mother” caught up in another person’s struggles, rather than a drug distributor.
“Those actually dealing drugs on our streets should be the ones held accountable, not someone mourning a loss,” the figure said in a statement. She expressed hope that Purvis would have the opportunity to enter a recovery-focused program, something she found beneficial in dealing with personal trauma.
Purvis was taken into custody following allegations that she provided a powerful synthetic drug mixture to a man who subsequently died. The defending celebrity challenged this narrative, shifting blame to the family of the deceased.
“The mother of the man who overdosed cannot hold another woman responsible for her son’s choices,” she contended. She criticized what she called a lack of accountability and argued that Purvis, who is currently unable to speak publicly due to the legal proceedings, is being unfairly scapegoated before she has proper legal defense.
The comments extended to a sharp critique of the police investigation. The public figure called the arrest “ridiculous,” demanding the investigating officer be fired for charging, in her view, an innocent person. She insisted that real dealers remain at large and that Purvis should consider legal action against the department.
“She has the right to express grief for someone she cared about without being jailed,” the figure concluded, ending her remarks with a call for Purvis’s immediate release.
