ROYAL STANDOFF: FORMER DUKE DEMANDS MASSIVE PAYOUT TO VACATE CROWN ESTATE HOME

A significant impasse has developed within the royal family, centered on the future residence of the King’s brother. The individual, who was relieved of his official royal duties and titles several years ago, is reportedly refusing to leave his long-term Windsor home without a substantial financial settlement.

Sources close to the matter indicate the resident is demanding approximately $99 million to formally relinquish the lease on the property, a grand residence he has occupied for over two decades. Negotiations for his relocation to a smaller home on another royal estate have stalled, with the individual allegedly insisting on a large, staffed property as a replacement.

“He is not merely hesitating to leave; he is digging in his heels,” a palace insider was quoted as saying. The report suggests the individual expects not only a sizable house but a full complement of domestic staff and continued security provisions, aiming to replicate his current standard of living.

The standoff is described as a costly and awkward obstacle for the monarchy, which has been streamlining its public-facing operations. The King is said to be keen to resolve the housing arrangement, but progress is reportedly “crawling.”

Despite the very public stripping of his royal style and military affiliations, those familiar with the situation claim little has changed within the walls of the Windsor home. It is alleged the former royal still expects to be addressed by his former title by household staff, operating under the belief that the sanctions do not apply in his private residence.

One associate described the individual as existing in a state of denial regarding his changed circumstances, largely insulated from public life and focused on personal pursuits. He continues to share the home with his former wife, who moved in with their two adult daughters in 2008.

The residence became available following the death of a senior royal, with the individual securing a long-term lease at that time. The current stalemate leaves his future housing—and the significant funds he is requesting—unresolved as negotiations continue behind closed doors.
