A university student found herself in an official meeting with her sorority’s disciplinary board after a televised comment falsely suggested she used cocaine.
The incident stems from a conflict on a popular reality television series. During an argument, another cast member, attempting to make a point about unverified gossip, stated she had “heard a rumor” that the young woman snorted cocaine at parties. The comment, intended as an analogy, was broadcast nationally.
The student, reflecting on the event, called the televised allegation “an insane statement to make.” The fallout was swift. Shortly after the episode aired, she was summoned to a virtual “standards” meeting with her sorority’s leadership.
“I’m sitting on this Zoom call with a straight face,” she recounted, “and they go, ‘We saw what just aired. Do you participate in doing the drug cocaine?’” She stated she answered with a firm denial, and the meeting concluded quickly after the board saw her visibly annoyed and unfazed reaction.
While she described the call as “very quick,” she expressed frustration that it occurred at all. She believed her sisters already knew the allegation was baseless. “It was just such a crazy question to ask me,” she said. “You didn’t have to bring me to standards for that.”
She later confronted the person who made the on-air comment, who subsequently apologized. The student confirmed the two are now on fine terms.
The original conflict on the show involved a rumor about the other cast member’s husband, which the student’s mother repeated. In a separate discussion, the mother claimed she was “set up” to spread that gossip by a relative who knew she would mention it on camera, in an attempt to create drama for the program.
