SORORITY QUESTIONS MEMBER OVER TELEVISED DRUG ALLEGATION

A university student found herself having to formally deny serious drug allegations after they were broadcast on a popular reality television program.

The incident stems from a conflict on a reality series, where during a heated argument, one cast member used an extreme analogy involving another cast member’s daughter. The analogy falsely alleged the young woman used cocaine at social events.

The student, who is a member of a campus sorority, later revealed the televised comment had direct repercussions on her collegiate life. She was summoned to a formal “standards” meeting with her sorority’s leadership to address the allegations.

“I’m sitting on this Zoom call with a straight face,” the student recounted, “and they go, ‘We saw what just aired. Do you participate in doing the drug cocaine?'” She stated she firmly denied the accusation, explaining that her demeanor—a mix of being unfazed and visibly angered by the question—convinced the panel and ended the inquiry quickly.

While she described the meeting as brief, she expressed frustration that it occurred at all, believing her character was already well-known within the organization. “The girls in my sorority knew that I didn’t engage in that,” she said. “It was just such a crazy statement and such a crazy question to ask me.”

She confirmed that the person who made the original televised comment has since apologized, and the two are now on fine terms. The situation highlights how offhand remarks made in a public forum can create real-world complications, requiring individuals to defend their reputations in unexpected and formal settings.

The broader conflict on the show involved rumors about infidelity, with one party recently claiming she was repeating gossip passed to her by a family member in an attempt to be helpful, only to have it used against her in a subsequent argument.
