A former professional dancer, known for his lengthy tenure and recent retirement from a popular televised dance competition, has delivered a series of pointed critiques about the show’s current season. His comments, shared during a recent podcast appearance, covered a wide range of contestants and professionals.
The dancer, who is also the older sibling of a current pro on the show, participated for 17 seasons before stepping away. Despite no longer competing, he remains an engaged observer.
During the podcast discussion, which focused on a recent themed episode, he offered both praise and sharp criticism. His assessments targeted several pairs, including a young professional dancer and a celebrity contestant from a musical group.
Among his notable points, he expressed skepticism that a front-running celebrity contestant was truly the season’s leader, suggesting another pair holds that distinction. He also critiqued a contemporary routine, stating the celebrity appeared under-rehearsed, though he clarified the comment was not an attack on the professional partner.
He commended another pair for a well-executed performance, noting the celebrity dancer was exceptionally strong. Reflecting on a jazz number from the perceived front-runner, he praised its theatrical quality, suggesting it was worthy of a Broadway stage.
However, not all feedback was positive. He described a rumba performed by a highly-regarded professional as a disappointment, calling it too traditional for the competition’s level. He was far more complimentary of another celebrity contestant, labeling her performance “unbelievable” and stating it nearly deserved a standing ovation.
His harshest critique was reserved for one of the professional dancers, whose casting he called a “missed opportunity” and whose technical foundation he strongly questioned.
He also named a personal favorite performance from the evening, praising both the celebrity’s look and execution. Finally, while he felt a rumba from another pair did not warrant a top score, he acknowledged the professional’s clear effort and passion, stating he had “no notes” on the dancer’s work.
The competition continues to air weekly.
