VETERAN TELEVISION HOST MAKES NOSTALGIC RETURN TO ICONIC DANCE COMPETITION

by BreAnna Bell

A familiar face is set to return to the judges’ table for a landmark celebration of a long-running television dance competition. Tom Bergeron, the original host of the series, will serve as a special guest judge for its upcoming 20th-anniversary episode.

Bergeron, who guided the show from its premiere in 2005 until his departure in 2020, expressed enthusiasm about his upcoming appearance. He described the opportunity as a chance to reconnect with fond memories and the people involved in the program. He praised the show’s resilience and current success, noting the rarity of a primetime series experiencing a ratings resurgence two decades into its run.

The former host indicated the anniversary special is designed to be a deeply nostalgic event, featuring appearances from past champions and a special dance challenge. Bergeron stated he is looking forward to simply enjoying the spectacle from the judges’ panel, free from the hosting duties he once managed.

His exit from the show several years ago was a subject of public discussion at the time. Bergeron has since suggested his departure was linked to disagreements over a controversial casting decision during a particular season, emphasizing it was a matter of principle rather than partisan politics.

Since Bergeron’s exit, the hosting role has seen several changes, with different personalities taking the helm in subsequent seasons. His upcoming guest judging role marks a significant homecoming for a figure synonymous with the show’s early years and much of its history.

The special anniversary episode is scheduled to air next week.
