A significant change of address within the Windsor estate has brought the Prince and Princess of Wales into closer proximity to a controversial family member, as broader institutional actions continue to unfold.
The Wales family has now taken up residence at Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, a move completed ahead of schedule. The property, an eight-room Georgian mansion, offers more spacious accommodations for the family of five, featuring extensive grounds that include a tennis court and a large pond. This relocation places their new home approximately two miles from Royal Lodge, the current residence of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
The move coincides with a period of transition for the King’s brother. Buckingham Palace has initiated the formal process of removing his royal styles and titles. As part of this action, he is expected to surrender the lease on Royal Lodge and relocate to privately funded accommodations on the Sandringham estate. A palace spokesperson confirmed the actions, stating they were deemed necessary, while noting the individual continues to deny the allegations against him.
The long-term lease on Royal Lodge, secured over two decades ago under favorable terms, has been a subject of internal discussion for years. There is no confirmed timeline for the departure, which will also require his former wife to find new accommodations.
Reports suggest the Prince of Wales supports the monarch’s decisive steps regarding the matter. The situation stems from longstanding associations with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, the latter having been convicted on serious charges. The individual in question settled a civil lawsuit with an accuser in 2022, though he has maintained his innocence.
The relocation of the Wales family to Forest Lodge is viewed as a permanent arrangement, intended to serve as their long-term family home even in future years. The shift in residences marks a tangible repositioning within the Windsor landscape as the monarchy navigates a complex chapter.
